Beginning of the spirit

The "Beginning of the Spirit" project organized by the Leo club of Sri Lanka Technological campus on World Children's Day was to protect the life of our future generation. If a small plant needs to grow into a strong tree , it's root needs to be nourished first. Similarly, for our children to grow into better citizens, good things need to be practiced from childhood itself . Children of today's generation have lost the beautiful childhood we had back then, the love we had for our environment, wildlife, isn't present in these young hearts anymore. So us leos, took an effort to narrow this gap up to a certain extent by engaging in fun activities with the kids by add a new meaning to World Children's Day.

Engaging them with activities

On the 1st of October, 2018 We took the little grade 3 kids of "Pitumpe primary school, Padukka" to our university and engaged them in small activities .The reason why we chose the grade 3 students was because of the good memory capacity they possess at that age . First we showed a small movie for our little minds to show the value of the environment, then we did a small act to the childrens song "monawada mutte mokada karanne" and asked our little kids their opinion and comments on this act. The happiness we felt at that moment couldn't be put into words. The way our young kids answered made sure that we successfully engraved the idea of protecting the environment in their pure hearts .

Art Competition

We also gave our youngsters a small challenge, that was to draw something they learned, did or saw that day . The youngsters accepted the challenge and brought the little things they had in their mind sets using crayons of multi colours into picture . We were amazed after seeing the beautiful arts of our younger generation and it made us understand that we've successfully completed the project we started . We also made the children plant several plants in their school garden from their own hands, and told them that they should take care of the plants. The excitement these little children had in their eyes and the happiness they had in their faces throughout that day,will indeed be a strength to our Leo journey.
