නේත්‍ර 2021...

Vision – an important human aspect many of us often take for granted and only falls under special consideration when it is far too late. In hopes of breaking this stigma and educating the value which the eye rightfully deserves, the Lions Club of Colombo Eye Care in collaboration with the LEO Clubs of Moratuwa, Colombo Host, Colombo MIllenium, University of Colombo – Faculty of Science, University of Colombo – Faculty of Arts, Mount Lavinia Orient Centennial, Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya , Unawatuna Dimaond Stars, Sri Lanka Technological Campus, University of Jayawardenepura, Kotahena Centennial Genesis, Wayamba Golden Gateway, Weliweriya, Colombo Fort, Battaramulla Synergy, Nawala Metro and Ananda College hosted Phase 1 of the joint project “Nethra”, which was held on the 6^th of February 2021 from 6.30p.m. onwards via the online platform Zoom. With the participation of around two hundred and fifty and a registration count of around three hundred and thirty, the event was graced by the guest speaker Lion Naresh Pradhan, member of the Lions Club of Colombo Eye Care and Programme Director – Eye Care Institute, who signified his presence by delving into the details of one of the main global aspects of Lions worldwide which is vision. 

During this session, Lion Pradhan spoke in great detail about the window to one’s soul, educating the attendees on basic eye defects such as myopia and colorblindness, how to practice and uphold eye care and the necessary medical interventions which need to be taken when a situation reaches a dire level.

Conclusively, the session received a highly positive critique, where all those present expressed their delight in gaining fascinating knowledge and importance on this certain human aspect. The journey has just begun, for Project Nethra has yet to complete its trilogy, with its next phase scheduled to be in late February. Overall Project Nethra is a great example where the true potential of teamwork and leoism is displayed in all its glory.
